Opening and closing the till

A till day involves two sessions that must not be confused:

SessionWhat it representsWhere to manage it
Point of sale sessionOne user's selling post in a shopPoint of Sale
Cash register sessionThe cash drawer: opening float, cash taken, final countFinance → Treasury → Cash Registers

Every shop has one cash register, created automatically with the shop.

Opening the day

  1. Open Point of Sale, then click Open Session.
  2. Confirm with Open Session in the dialog.

What happens to the cash drawer depends on the Auto-open sessions with the default float setting (System Settings → Global settings):

  • On: if no cash register session is open, one opens automatically with the default float.
  • Off: a person must open the cash register session and enter the amount actually counted in the drawer.

During the day: the X report

The X Report button of the point of sale downloads an interim report as a PDF, without closing anything. The arrow next to it offers a Thermal PDF (80mm) for receipt printers.

The X report shows transactions, gross sales, payments by method, the opening float and the expected closing amount of the drawer.

Closing the day

Closing takes two steps.

1. Close the point of sale session

  1. Complete or cancel the current cart: a session cannot be closed with an active cart.

  2. Click Close Session, add a note if needed, then confirm.

A closed point of sale session cannot be reopened: make sure no sale is in progress.

Closing the point of sale session does not close the cash drawer.

2. Count and close the cash register

  1. Open Finance → Treasury → Cash Registers, then the shop's register.

  2. Click Open/Close Session.

  3. Count the cash in the drawer and enter the Closing Amount.

  4. Fill in the Notes, which are required, then click Close Register.

The dialog does not show the expected amount: the cashier declares what they actually count.

The Z report downloads when the register is closed. The register's Sessions tab keeps every session with its opening amount, closing amount and declared difference.

Inoxal example: 1,000 MAD float, 8,384 MAD cash taken, 9,380 MAD counted, so 4 MAD short.

Good to know

  • Differences feed the Staff Performance report, which counts sessions “outside tolerance” according to the Cash variance tolerance setting.
  • From the register page, Cash ↔ Bank Transfer records a cash deposit at the bank.
Count before you confirm

The amount entered at closing is the reference for the difference and the Z report. Count the drawer before entering it, not after.
